State ID Proposed in Nevada
Summary from an article in the Nov/Dec 2004 issue of the HOME SCHOOL
COURT REPORT presented in the Home School Legal Defense (HSLDA) — by
Christopher J. Klicka
Clark County school officials presented a proposal for a statewide policy
requiring homeschool parents to have an ID card to the state board of
education. The card would require parents to have proof of identity issued
by the state, either photography ID card or some other document. This
ID card would also provide evidence or proof that their child is exempt
from school.
HSLDA stated they felt this was violate the following constitutional
rights:
" the right to privacy, which has been recognized by the U.S. Supreme
Court and which restricts the type of information a government agency
can collect;
the right to freely exercise one's religious beliefs without unreasonable
and unnecessary restrictions (such as proof of identity); and the right
to direct the education and upbringing of one's children."
HSLDA also reported that this proposed regulation would end up requiring
medical testing to fully comply with establishing a parent child connection.
Further more, it was reported that no other state places such offensive
regulations on homeschoolers.
Nevada homeschool groups and HSLDA are continuing to work to make sure
this proposal is abandoned. |
