2004 Winners: The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist of the most outstanding American picture book for children. The medal is named in honor of the 19th century English illustrator, Randolph Caldecott.

  CORETTA SCOTT KING AWARD: Established in 1969 to honor Mrs. King for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood. Presented annually to an African American author and illustrator whose works encourage and promote world unity and peace.
